Clowns are terrifying. As are the Teletubbies (what sort of life evolves TV abdominals?). And don't even get us started on the notion of living toys.
These overlooked and ignored elements of childhood characters have been brought into stark focus by the talents of French illustrator Sylvain Sarrailh, in her series BADASS.
The whimsy and sunshine are out, making way for the adult and sinister: Shrek without the happily ever, Buzz Lightyear's true calling, and less Pooh, more bear.
Playtime is very much over.
