Rogue One trailer is infinitely cooler re-edited to the sound of The Beastie Boys

Star Wars or Star Trek?

It’s a question of loyalty that has long caused a schism between the world's nerds. Two of pop culture’s biggest sci-fi franchises, two unique sets of characters, two separate space fleets – but they’re not so different anymore.

First there was J.J. Abrams, hopping aboard the Enterprise for a big screen reboot before starting up the Millennium Falcon in The Force Awakens, and now there’s this: a fan-made re-edit of the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story set to The Beastie Boys song Sabotage, used extensively in all those recent trailers for Star Trek Beyond.

And you know what? It’s actually a masterstroke. Doing away with the pathos and gravitas of the recent Star Wars universe and replacing it with a more knowing badass atmosphere, it's giving us another bout of 'new hope' for Gareth Edwards' upcoming blockbuster.

Though to be fair, you could play BBC's Bargain Hunt to the sounds of Sabotage and it would sound cooler than David Bowie stood on a glacier in Hoth eating an ice lolly.
