Artists. Annoyingly talented aren't they? And worse, they get on really well, their work inspiring one another to draw and create increasingly brilliant things.
A while ago Jon watched the entire series of Red Dwarf for the first time. "I had seen some of it before way back in college but I have never seen the beginning or the end of the run. I have now."
He loved it so much that he set about drawing the characters in his own inimitable style (above) and even made a video to show how his sketches progressed to the full on finished product (below).
Seeing Jon's work sculptor Caitlin got in touch and asked if she could recreate his image in 3D. "I was so flattered and intrigued about having someone interpret my work into another medium" he said "I sent her what I had and then waited. It was worth it."
"I've been a fan of Red Dwarf since way back when it started." Recalls Caitlin "As soon as I saw Jon Pinto's art I knew I had to sculpt them. I found his site via his Doctor Who art and they are so getting sculpted after this project."
Caitlin set about making them, experimenting with different material combinations and first sculpting the heads for Cat, Rimmer, Original Holly and Kryten, before building the latter three entirely. The finished Cat is still to come and she promises she'll get round to Lister too.
The finished Holly...
And the finished Kryten and Rimmer, alongside a work in progress Rimmer...
