Making art from maps

Ever since Sat Navs came on the scene to make road maps seem antiquated and, well, just a bit stupid, we've been in desperate need of a worthy way of recycling our trusty old friends.

They've saved us on many journeys so deserve a better funeral than a simple kitchen bin coffin, with cold beans for a bedmate.

The rather brilliant American artist Matthew Cusick decided to turn a variety of maps into some stunning landscape shots and came up with these pieces. While it would have been nice to spot the odd A road or service station, we're still big fans of his work.
