Make a good online dating profile

How to perfect the ultimate first impression

Make a good online dating profile

Since online dating is now the norm, Matt Janes, founder of new London site Doingsomething.co.uk (use the code ‘instructions’ for a free month’s membership), shows you how to profile yourself perfectly.

Be specific “The best way for any dating profile to stand out is to add detail. If you’re into music, give examples — most cherished record, favourite gig…”

Don’t lie “Telling the truth also helps you stand out. You won’t be to everyone’s taste, so celebrate this — don’t try too hard to appeal to everyone you want to meet.”

Suggest a date “Putting forward an idea for what you’d like to do on a date shows creativity — an attractive quality. Ping pong is a good date idea.”

Use photos “Not even Shakespeare could write prose good enough to get a date without a photo. Two or three gives people an idea of what you’re about.”

Get a second opinion “When you’ve finished editing your profile, ask a female friend to have a look. She’ll help you edit the photos and prune any misjudged phrases.”
