Lightsabers. A Golden Gun. A Batarang. The Noisy Cricket.

The list of iconic film weaponry we wish we owned just got an entry shorter today - as we're finally able to knock off the bullet-spitting Pulse Rifle of James Camerons' Aliens.

We haven't bought one. We've just found out how to make one - a DIY project fit for any Bank Holiday weekend. You're going to need the following:

  • An N-Strike Elite Retaliator toy gun (£28)
  • Plastic pipping
  • A hacksaw
  • Sheet metal screws and steel hanging strap (about £7)
  • Gaffa tape
  • Cyanoacrylate Accelerator (super-superglue, £3.90)
  • Matt black spray paint (£5.99)
  • A cardboard box

Once you've equipped yourself with all the required tools and materials, you're going to want to set up your laptop/tablet/phone in a garage (we would say kitchen, but you're going to make a right mess) and settle down to watch Dustin McLean's brilliant DIY guide.

Here's hoping he makes a video for the flame thrower bodge next week.
