As any smug home-owner will tell you, paying rent is pretty much the same as throwing money away.
So, it's not hard to empathise with Dai Heifei, a Chinese architecture graduate who decided against Beijing's high rent and chose to create his own home instead.
The 6-foot-tall egg-shaped hut was built near his office and Haifei had been living there for two months. It housed a single bed, a water tank and a basin but no kitchen or shower. For the cost of around £616, the house was made from bamboo and sacks full of grass seeds to grow when spring came.
Sadly it never will as he was evicted, just in time for Christmas.Boo hiss.
