Gorgeous concept art for Blade Runner sequel revealed

Directed by Ridley Scott, starring Harrison Ford and based on a Philip K. Dick masterwork, 1982’s Blade Runner was so good we’ll pretend it wasn’t set in 2019.

Now here’s an eyeful of concept art for the forthcoming sequel, taking us back into the spinner-strewn skies of dystopian, neon-clad Los Angeles.

The vehicle you’re looking at is a futuristic snow blower. It’s probably not piloted by wrongdoing skin-jobs – sorry – but it does serve as an insight into how the city has changed over the past few years, and how that might affect the populous.

“The climate has gone berserk – the ocean, the rain, the snow is all toxic,” says director Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Prisoners), who has confirmed the film takes place a few decades after the original.

First revealed by Entertainment Weekly, the concept art certainly looks aesthetically faithful to the 1982 classic, though time will tell what other major changes we see in the fiercely futuristic California. Flying noodle bars now able to break the space time continuum perhaps?

It certainly seems to be hitting all the right notes for fans: along with Scott returning to the setup as executive producer, Harrison Ford also comes back to the fold as wily Rick Deckard, whose barnstorming (literally) entrance in the opening scene has already been revealed by Scott

Ford will also be joined by man-of-the-moment Ryan Gosling, and we don't really need to guess which one of them will play bad cop.

The still-untitled sequel will be out in the UK on 6 October 2017. Looks as though we’ve plenty of electric sheep to count before then.
