Life’s unfair. You go to the gym five days a week and push yourself harder and further than ever before, and then you wake up to the news that Gordon Ramsay looks better shirtless than you ever will.

That’s right, we’re sorry you had to find out this way, but Ramsay is ripped and you’re just another guy who is less ripped than Gordon Ramsay.

Yes, the same Gordon Ramsay who devised bacon and eggs cooked inside a giant hash brown, and who failed to make it past the first round of our search for the UK’s hardest chef.

The celebrity chef began his career as a footballer, so he’s used to serious athletic training, but still.

The man’s in his 50s, and he’s spent his entire career travelling, cooking and eating. And yet he looks like this…

There’s a good explanation, though. When he’s not travelling, cooking and eating, Ramsay has another passion: ironman triathlons.

For the uninitiated, that’s a 2.4 mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a full marathon run of 26.2 miles, all in one day. It goes without saying that you have to be in great shape to compete in one, let alone record a competitive time.

Ramsay was recently out in Hawaii for the World Ironman Championships, though this time he was only watching as Germany’s Patrick Lange took gold in a world record time of 8:01:40.

The Scot has competed twice before, finishing the 2013 race in just over 14 hours and failing to finish two years later.

Ramsay has said he’ll return to the island for next year’s race, when he’ll be hoping to make up for the disappointment of 2015.

In the meantime he’s working on his new show Gordon Ramsay on Cocaine, which looks into the drug’s background and marks a move away from the cooking shows we know him for.

“I’ve wanted to understand the ‘world’ of cocaine ever since I lost one of my chefs at my flagship restaurant in Chelsea and I wanted to learn why it’s becoming such an epidemic - not just globally but specifically in the culinary world,” Ramsay said about the show.

“I saw cocaine quite early on in my career. I’ve been served it. I’ve been given it.

“I’ve had my hand shaken and left with little wraps of foil in it. I’ve been asked to dust cocaine on top of soufflés, to put it on as icing sugar… coke’s everywhere. It’s spiralling out of control.

“With soaring cocaine deaths in Britain and along the coke supply chain, I’m determined to understand the criminal business behind this deadly drug.”

We’ll definitely be tuning in.
