Gary Lineker is backing a campaign for a second Brexit referendum

Nice Guy Gary is on the case

Gary Lineker is backing a campaign for a second Brexit referendum
26 July 2018

Gary Linker, nice man of soccer, so he is, man who is not shy of vocalising his political beliefs. Nice Guy Gary, always on hand to lend a helping hand for a good cause. As such, next on his hit-list is Brexit, everyone’s favourite enigma - that thing that is not going to plan, not working out like everyone thought it would, not, erm, working.

So what he’s done is team up with the People’s Vote group, and join them in their quest to call for a second referendum on the final Brexit deal.

Lineker said:

“I spent most of the last few weeks totally focused on a fantastic World Cup.

“But it was impossible to avoid what was happening in the Brexit debate back home.

“Now I’m back I find the whole thing more bewildering and worrying than ever.

“Whether you voted Leave or Remain, did anyone really vote for the mess we seem to be in, let alone the prospect of no deal with all the terrible consequences attached to that?

“The politicians seem unable to resolve the problem the people gave them in voting to Leave.

“That is why I think there should be a People’s Vote on the final deal, and why I am sending best wishes and good luck to the campaigners who will be stepping up the pressure over the summer.”

Lineker has happily spoken of his disdain for Brexit in the past, and according to BBC guidelines, he is absolutely welcome to - his position as a freelance broadcaster who does not front a news or politics programme, means he’s exempt from their impartiality rules.

The People’s Vote will be holding rallies and marches across Bristol, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Cambridge, Cardiff, Liverpool and Birmingham over the next three months, and the whole campaign will culminate in a huge “biggest Brexit protest yet” in London on October 20.
