Elon Musk has shown up at the Thai cave with his mini-submarine but it's no use to the divers

Erm, thanks?

Elon Musk has shown up at the Thai cave with his mini-submarine but it's no use to the divers
10 July 2018

As you should be aware of by now, a load of children were stuck in a flooded cave in Thailand this week, and we’re currently in the midst of a rescue operation to get them out. At the time of writing, ten kids have been removed from the cave, but the endeavour is not over yet, and Elon Musk is there to help.

He turned up at the cave with his new invention, a mini, kid-sized sub:

Looks pretty impressive, sure, but will it work? Do Thailand want his miniature cave-tube?

Well, no. Narongsak Osatanakorn, the head of the joint command centre coordinating the operation, said:

“Although his technology is good and sophisticated it’s not practical for this mission.”

Like, it’s quite funny, this, but he seemingly is trying to help, so we can’t knock him for that, and it’s not like it’s just some bloke who’s snapped his chimney off and said “Put a kid in that” - this is actual genius Elon Musk we’re talking about. He’ll obviously be getting a load of free publicity out of this, but his intentions are good - we think.

And either way, Thailand’s prime minister has personally thanked Musk for his help:

Personally, we’re firmly in Good Guy Musk camp, regardless of how Gazza/Raoul Moat this may appear. Good effort, we say. And fingers crossed the rest of the rescue goes without a hitch.
