Dubai to build World's Biggest Ferris Wheel

If you like hot countries and heights then have we got the news story for you: Dubai is set to build the world's biggest ferris wheel.

Dubbed the Dubai Eye (obvs) it will stand at 210 metres tall, which is considerably larger than the London Eye's 135 metres, and will offer views of Dubai's coastline and iconic landmarks such as Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeirah and Burj Khalifa.

The Emirates ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has approved what will be a £1.03 billion ($1.6 billion) island development project, which will also include an entertainment zone, a unique venue for special occasions and conferences, and a luxury five-star hotel.

The destination will feature a bespoke souq encircled by a promenade that will boast alfresco dining outlets serving a wide variety of cuisine. The souq will also host an eclectic mix of retail stores and a food hall offering fresh produce in a traditional market atmosphere.

The construction is set to take place towards the end of the year.
