It's all going well for Corbs right now

Jeremy Corbyn is psyched that Donald Trump's had to cancel his UK state visit
12 June 2017

Jeremy Corbyn has welcomed the cancellation of Donald Trump’s upcoming UK visit, citing his “attack on London’s mayor” and withdrawal from the Paris Climate Deal.

Corbyn has previously described Trump’s withdrawal from the climate deal as “reckless and dangerous” and urged people to “just think about what is happening to our planet”.

He told activists in York at the beginning of June that the “commitments made in Paris are vital to stop the world reaching the point of no return on climate change… there can be no question of watering them down.

“Instead of hand-holding, I'll work for a sustainable future for our planet.”

London mayor Sadiq Khan will be pleased to hear the news: just one week ago he called for the visit to be cancelled following Trump’s inflammatory comments on the London Bridge attacks.

“I don’t think we should roll out the red carpet to the president of the USA in the circumstances where his policies go against everything we stand for,” he said.

“When you have a special relationship it is no different from when you have got a close mate. You stand with them in times of adversity but you call them out when they are wrong. There are many things about which Donald Trump is wrong.”

Trump himself says the visit hasn’t been cancelled and has merely been “put on hold” until the British public “supports him coming”.

Luckily, we’ve managed to get an exclusive insight into some of that support.
