Daredevil tightrope walker

Do you have vertigo? No? Well, you just might get it from this terrifying snap of Swiss tightrope walker Freddy Nock, seen here scaling the cable-car wire to the summit of Diavolezza, a 2,978-metre-high mountain in the Swiss Alps. It was part of his attempt to break seven records in seven days to raise money for Unicef. He failed, but let’s gloss over that — after all, he can’t control the weather. We don’t think.

And he did manage to break five of them, including the highest ever slackrope walk (pictured) and the longest walk without a balancing pole. And his failure to beat the records for the highest and longest tightrope ride on a bicycle and the longest rope walk over water will no doubt be rectified once the weather clears up. So if you’re ever at Lake Thun, look around. You might just see a Swiss man strolling past. Albeit 50 metres above you.
