Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor traded verbal potshots in Los Angeles yesterday, as a four-stop international promotional tour for their much-anticipated fight got underway.

When the two-weight UFC Champion goes toe-to-toe with an undefeated Mayweather in Vegas next month, it’s the legendary boxer who most regard as overwhelming favourite, but don’t expect that to bother McGregor.

Mayweather and McGregor faces off at the press conference

‘The Notorious’ was at his big-mouth best for the lairy LA crowd, promising he’d only need four rounds to knock out the man whose record stands at 49-0.

The Irishman was so admirably committed to winding his opponent up that even his suit was an offensive gesture. “How do you taunt someone with a sharp pinstripe suit?” we hear you ask. You arrange for said pinstripes to be made up of the words “Fuck You” – obviously.

Not clear enough? Fine.

McGregor wasn’t finished there, though. He further goaded Mayweather by mocking his own wardrobe choice. “He's in a track suit,” he told the 11,000-strong press conference, most of whom were on his side. “He can't even afford a suit anymore.”

Of course, Mayweather, whose nickname is ‘Money’, was never going to let that one sit, and he responded by casually pulling out a $100 million cheque.

Other than that, he seemed content to let McGregor make most of the noise. For now, at least.
