Comic Strip Etched Onto A Single Human Hair

Remember glibly flicking the corner outline of your school notebook to reveal a crude animation written just small enough so only you could read it? Superb, wasn’t it?

We digress…the scientific world has gone one step better than that, devising a comic strip so small that not only is it invisible to the naked eye, but also exists on a strand of human hair.

Ahead of the upcoming Exceptional Hardware Software Meeting in Hamburg from 27 June, German organisers and all-round show-offs etched 12 frames of illustrations from Claudia Puhlfurst onto a single strand of hair using a focused ion beam.

The story itself concerns a girl who creates various items such as music and plants. Not riveting comic material, admittedly, but then Tim Berners-Lee didn't Google himself straight away, did he?
