Here's how to find out which Chinese year you were born in

Chinese New Year falls on 16 February this year, at which point we will enter the Year of the Dog.

The festivities come at a different time in the Western calendar each year, as it’s based on China’s lunar calendar, but it’s always sometime between 21 January and 20 February.

Your date of birth corresponds to one of the following animals: dog, pig, rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey or rooster.

That means if your age is a multiple of 12 this year, you were likely born in the Year of the Dog – though if your date of birth is in January or February there’s some margin for error.
