A Harambe-shaped Cheeto just sold for $100k

The meme has reached peak ridiculousness

Harambe is the meme that just won’t die, despite the gorilla’s untimely end.

In case you forgot (how could you), Harambe was the gorilla who was shot in his enclosure after a child fell into it. Since then he has become an internet legend with apparently much more longevity than your usual viral sensation, because someone just paid $99,900 (£80,629) for a Cheeto that looks him.

Yes, a Cheeto. A bag of which usually costs around a pound. With around 100 Cheetos in a bag, that means the actual cost/worth of the Harambe Cheeto is one penny. But someone paid the equivalent of someone else’s life savings for it.

The crisp was described as a “one of a kind” tribute that the owner stumbled upon while indulging in a bag.

Bidding began at $11.99 on Jan. 28 and after 132 bids it ended early Tuesday morning with a winning bid of $99,900.

We would argue it’s not even a full Cheeto, but clearly someone with a deeper meme commitment saw some ridiculous value in it.
