Cat Runs For Mayor

They've taken over the internet, so why shouldn't they take over the real world as well?

A cat named Tuxedo Stan is standing for mayor in the Canadian region of Halifax, and he is paws-down the voters' favourite candidate.

Stan is running on behalf of the Tuxedo Party, which has a motto of "A chicken in every pot & a litter box in every house" - a worthy aim, we're sure you'll agree. Its general aim is to "improve the welfare of felines in the Halifax Municipal Region", and Stan has been urging people to donate money or time to local rescue groups and reach out to his less-fortunate feline friends.

Unfortunately Stan can't actually appear on the ballot or officially run the city, but such is his increasing popularity that he may well follow the example of Stubbs, a tabby who has held the unofficial title of Cat Mayor of Alaska for the past 15 years.

With David Cameron's popularity running low, perhaps a bid for leadership from Downing Street cat Larry is just around the corner. He'd be purr-fect for the job.
