Voice command app turns car into big disco

Car stereo makeover
06 January 2011

The modern world can be a bewildering and unfathomable place at times. The rapid advances in technology can leave some gasping for breath.

Not us though, we embrace these mind-bending and innovative developments as tightly as if they were our own mother. And much like Ronnie and Reggie Kray we love our mum.

The latest whizz-bang, all-singing, all-dancing gadget to tickle our fancy is the Parrot Asteroid, and this one is, quite literally, all-singing and all-dancing. Unveiled at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the Parrot Asteroid is a car stereo that enables you to listen to any song of your choosing.

Not only will it sync with your iPod, it will search for any song online using software that searches streaming sites like Spotify – all you have to do is tell the gadget what Tom Waits or Madonna song you want to listen to. Nifty, eh?

The app is the brainchild of the clever clogs at Parrot, and the French company is looking to develop a raft of apps for the car, from a device that will inform you of nearby available parking spaces to one that will provide directions. The Asteroid will be available in all good shops soon and will be equivalently priced to standard car stereos.

Consider us well and truly impressed.
