A 'Young Sheldon' 'Big Bang Theory' spin-off is happening

It's never going away, is it?

A 'Young Sheldon' 'Big Bang Theory' spin-off is happening
14 March 2017

Love it or hate it, there's no denying that The Big Bang Theory has been on our screens for a LONG time. At this point we're willing to say perhaps a little too long.

The almost decade-old sitcom was rumoured to be facing cancellation this year until CBS recently made moves to renew it for a definite 11th season and an increasingly likely 12th,

Anyone who doesn't yet feel the urge to fling their remote at the television screen the minute the theme song begins can catch season 11 when it airs in September.

However, whatever happens to TBBT, it won't spell the end for Sheldon Cooper. In a case of what some might describe as flogging a dead horse, CBS has announced that it has picked up a spin-off, entitled Young Sheldon.

The more astute amongst you have probably already solved the enigma of what the new series is going to focus on.

Young Sheldon will follow – you guessed it – a young genius Sheldon Cooper as he attends high school in Texas.

Iain Armitage of HBO's Big Little Lies will star as a nine-year-old Sheldon, with Jim Parsons narrating.

While it would probably have been a nice idea to bring the show to a (sort of) dignified conclusion at some stage, the public are apparently still hungry for more. When season 10 premiered in September 2016 it drew in a whopping 15.8 million viewers.

So, for better or worse it looks like The Big Bang Theory will keep going in one form or another, presumably until the universe formed by it collapses in on itself once and for all.
