Aston Martin’s Mighty 2015 Vanquish

What, we ask, do you associate with Aston Martin…hulking curves? Automotive sophistication? A nasty habit of getting written off whenever a certain 007 gets behind the wheel after one too many Martinis?

What you might not bracket with the brand of course is speed, or at least the sort of speed normally attributed to those flimsy and garishly-coloured Continental supercars found outside Harrods. As for all the engine power they usually contain under the bonnet, an Aston Martin remains reassuringly understated.

And yet the latest Vanquish is set to combine the best of these worlds. Long a signature model in the car brand’s armoury, the 2015 edition looks set to be the fastest of the lot, achieving 0-60 time in a mere 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 201mph.

The eye-popping speeds of the self-billed Super Grand Tourer are generated by an AM29 V12 engine – the most powerful GT production engine in the company’s history, also helped by a new Touchtronic III eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Predictably, it’s just as state-of-the-art inside its carbon body, with new touches added to its infotainment system and extra hand-crafted glass buttons in the ‘cabin’.

Yes, not only does it look like a jet, it sounds like one, too. Book a test flight at Astonmartin.com
