A cat is running to be the next U.S. President

We're all used to ineffectual politicians, but one Presidential hopeful may have just won the award for being the least fit-for-office applicant of all time.

Limberbutt McCubbins is a Louisville cat running in the race for leadership of the Democrat Party - if successful, he could make it to the Oval Office by 2016.

Candidate McCubbins was put forward by a friend of his owner, who told the NPR that he thought the feline "would make a great president". Apparently it's completely legal for a cat to run, assuming the necessary paperwork has been filed.

McCubbins has been inundated with support, even receiving letters from lawyers wishing to represent him (although it is unclear how many of them had seen McCubbins before contacting him).

Limberbutt's Facebook page already has almost 2,000 likes, and he has a website selling official Limberbutt 2016 memorabilia parodying Obama's famous 'Hope' posters.

Whether Limberbutt's name will join Barack's in the presidential hall of fame is yet to be decided, but we're quietly hopeful.

In Limberbutt's own words: "The time is meow".
