In an age of 3D animation and CGI wizardry, it's a testament to the quality of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli that their hand-drawn films are admired the world over.
The bewildering characters of Ghibli's works even manage to carry a special charm in these pixelated tributes. Designed by Richard J Evans, the Birmingham-based artist created this 8-bit series to celebrate the theatrical release of The Wind Rises - the final film of Miyazaki, which arrives in the UK on 9 May.
From 1984's Valley of the Wind to 2010's The Secret World of Arrietty, the blocky series is a brilliant mashup of pixel art and 'traditional' animation.
