Trucker's Asymmetric Face Ageing

Trucker's Asymmetric Face Ageing

We've all spent a carefree summer's afternoon cruising down the highway (well, stuck in traffic on the M1) only to discover a rather beautiful one-sided burn upon reaching your destination.

Well, imagine that, only for 28 years and you have the intriguing case highlighted in The New England Journal of Medicine.

A 69-year-old man presented with a history of gradual wrinkling and thickening of the skin - but only on the left side of his face. It was discovered that he had been a truck driver for 28 years and thus one side of his face had been disproportionatly exposed to ultraviolet A (UVA) rays which had penetrated the window glass. In effect, he had conducted his own scientific experiment with the right side of his face as the control.

Interestingly, the right side of his face looks great for a man of 69 - clearly truck driving is good for the skin, as long as you keep the curtains closed occasionally.
