Samsung Galaxy Named Gadget of the Year

iPhone 5 is beaten

Samsung Galaxy Named Gadget of the Year

The launch of the iPhone 5 was the most highly-anticipated event of the year in technology - but last night it was beaten to Gadget of the Year by the Samsung Galaxy S III in the hotly-contested Stuff magazine awards in London.

Editor Will Findlater explained the decision, saying, "while Apple’s gadgets have been exemplary, its competitors have made even greater strides – and the Galaxy S III, with its 4.8in HD screen and unique interface innovations, shows that Samsung has made the greatest strides of all.”

Now in its fifth year, the Stuff Awards took place in Covent Garden, and the big winners were Google, taking four of the six prizes they were nominated for. Apple didn't walk away empty-handed though, winning Computer of the Year for their new MacBook Pros; surprisingly their Apple Maps missed out App of the year - must have been a close run thing we're sure.

Innovation of the Year deservedly went to the Raspberry Pi mini-computer, with British Gas scooping an award for their Remote Heating Control: good to see those increased bills aren't being wasted.

A full run-down of the winners are below - it's essentially our Christmas list.
