Philosophical Argument Over Kant Ends In Shooting

Philosophical Argument Over Kant Ends In Shooting
16 September 2013

We've been known to have fierce arguments over many things - the best football team, what flavour crisps we should get and which one of the Back To The Future movies is the best - but we've never come to blows over philosophy.

However, in Russia, clearly they indulge in a higher level of coffee shop chat, but with dangerous results - as an argument between two men in a grocery store over the theories of the 18th-century philosopher Immanuel Kant ended in one of them being shot.

The news agency RIA quoted police in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don as saying a fight had broken out after a disagreement over Kant, author of the seminal text Critique of Pure Reason. Then, "in the course of the fight, the suspect took out a pistol firing rubber bullets and fired several shots at his opponent."

One man has since been detained, while the other was taken to hospital - his life is not in danger.

You have to admit this is an unusual story - we Kant believe it's happened.
