DJ and presenter Marvin Humes tries his hand at mixing drinks with Smirnoff

All you need is inspiration
20 November 2013

Ever felt the urge to be creative, but don’t know where to start? If so, Smirnoff has the perfect challenge for you. The classic vodka brand is urging people to ‘think outside the glass’ and be as inventive as possible when it comes to dreaming up their own cocktail recipes.

That was the task given to Marvin Humes, a man no stranger to thinking differently. The former JLS star has successfully taken on all manner of projects since leaving the pop world behind. He’s DJing, TV presenting and interviewing – not to mention fatherhood – he’s keeping himself busy now he’s free from the grasps of pop music. And, while Marvin is great at mixing tracks, he also proved deft when it came to mixing drinks. “Taking inspiration from everyday life means you can create great drinks that you may not otherwise have thought of.

Taking inspiration from everyday life means '''you''' can create great drinks

It has been fun going down memory lane and thinking about the most important things in my life to spark creativity, and the result has been some fantastic drinks. My favourite creation has to be my ‘Rochelle Sundae’, which is inspired by my love for Rochelle, and reminds me of when we first met.” So what are you waiting for? Grab a bottle of Smirnoff, something to drink from – be it a glass, a jam jar or your favourite mug – and an open mind. You might just mix your new favourite.

THE INGREDIENTS

● 35ml Smirnoff No21

● 100ml cherry juice (available

in any large supermarket)

● 10ml elderflower cordial

● 3 fresh strawberries or a squeeze

of strawberry puree. Plus a slice of

strawberry for garnish

● Fresh lime

THE METHOD

Step 1 Pour the Smirnoff, cherry juice, elderflower cordial and the fresh strawberries into a cocktail shaker (or jam jar if you don’t have one) and lightly shake up.

Step 2 Pour over cubes ice into a tall sundae glass.

Step 3 Finish by squeezing a splash of fresh lime on top and a slice of strawberry for garnish.

THE INSPIRATION

The cocktail combines several ingredients that Marvin knows his wife loves. The classic sundae glass reminds Marvin of the time that they first met and enjoyed a drink together, and – like any great dessert – the Rochelle Sundae cocktail would be absolutely perfect for sharing.
