What are we supposed to do now?

Wetherspoon's have a new rule and you're *not* going to like it

It’s a situation we’ve all faced. Your phone battery is down to 20% and you’re planning to be out for another few hours, so you try to charm the bar staff in the hope they’ll stick your phone on charge for half an hour or so.

A little while later, you’re right as rain and can go back to retweeting yourself without fear of not having enough juice to order a taxi home later on.

That’s providing you’re not so drunk you’ve forgotten about it, and end up having to head back to the pub the following morning in the blind hope it’s still sitting there, unclaimed.

Well, this little luxury may soon be over for those of us who do all of our low-battery boozing at Wetherspoon’s.

You, retweeting yourself over a pint

A spokesman for the chain told Metro that ‘Spoons have introduced a nationwide ban on folks charging their phones behind the bar.

“The bar itself is busy and we do not want people’s phones there. We also do not want the hassle of phones keep being handed over the bar for charging,” the spokesman said.

However there may be a sliver of hope, with the final decision on charging coming at the discretion of the manager.

Time to start cosying up to the boss if you’re a regular at your local. Or, y’know, just bring a portable charger with you – especially if you plan on using the Wetherspoon’s app, that means you don’t even have to leave your table to order your beer and a burger meal.

So best keep your tracks covered from now on. You don’t want to end up in the situation of having to drunkenly navigate your way home without your phone. Honestly, how did our parents ever survive?
