Sam Adams has just made a $200 craft beer

At $200 per bottle, Sam Adams’ latest beer isn’t something you’d down at your next pre-drinks.

Dubbed ‘Utopias’, the American brewery’s latest creation is a blended beer that includes 23-year-old aged Samuel Adams Triple Bok beer combined with previous Utopia vintages. The aging process occurs in a vast range of barrels including Armagnac, cognac, ruby port, sweet Madeira, Buffalo Trace Bourbon and White Carcavelos wine - a combination that leaves the beer uncarbonated. Beer without bubbles and over £130 a bottle? Your local homebrew this ain’t.

As for taste, apparently Utopias is a beer that has ‘a rich flavour with notes of vanilla, cinnamon and ginger.’ As well as a 28 per cent ABV. Ooft.

Clearly, Utopias is unlike any beer you’ve ever tasted, hence its eye-watering price point. When one of your key ingredients is a 23-year-old beer, you can understand why Utopias will never see mass production. In fact, less than 10,000 units have ever been made and this is only the ninth time it has ever been released.

But, if you’re looking for the ultimate gift for craft beer fans and would like to know more, check out the website’s stocklist.

Just make sure the recipient knows it’s a drink that should be sipped rather than gulped.
