Prepare for the best birthday party ever

ASDA is launching a giant caterpillar cake

When it comes to birthdays or office parties – or, to be honest, if you’re just having a big night in on your own – there’s only one option when it comes to cake. Victoria sponge? Get out of here. Carrot cake? Are you having a laugh?

No, there’s only one claim to the party cake crown: the humble caterpillar cake. It started with Colin, M&S’s offering, before other supermarkets took up the mantle. But what do you do when you have more than ten hungry people to feed?

Well it looks like the answer is: get a really, really big one.

M&S themselves launched a giant Colin a few years ago – but it was only available online and was also forty quid, so no last minute dash to the supermarket with everyone’s spare change when you realise just before lunchtime it’s your boss’ birthday.

But now ASDA has done us a solid, releasing a 45cm long Clyde who serves 24 people and costs just over a tenner.

“As well as being a fun novelty cake, Colossal Clyde is great value for money for our customers,” said ASDA bakery expert Sarah Burns.

“There has been an increasing demand for supersized and extraordinary products recently and we’re happy to be at the forefront of quirky thinking and show stopping products that our customers love.”

£12 and serves 24 people? Sounds like our perfect night in, to be honest.
