Americans have just found out about sausage rolls and they’re freaking out

Americans have done things to food that we could never have fathomed (here's looking at you Double Down). 

But the New York Times has just introduced the greater US public to sausage rolls in the form of a recipe - and it's having a monumental affect. Primarily, on us Brits. 

Firstly, because we didn't realise that sausage weren't ours to "claim as our own", as the New York Times puts it.

Secondly, because it's frankly offensive that the people who came up with marshmallows on sweet potatoes as a side dish to turkey can't wrap their heads around sausage meat in heavenly pastry.

Twitter user @GavinTaylorPip perfectly summed up our exasperation and the incredulousness of the situation by tweeting: 

Guys think of it like a deconstructed corndog, with buttery, flaky pastry instead of cornbread. 

Let's hope they don't find out about pasties lest it be too much for their culinary stability.
