On Friday 6th February – the eve of the Twingo E-Tech electric’s UK debut, Shortlist hosted an exclusive event with Renault to celebrate the London premiere of its Twingo, joined by radio presenter and broadcaster Greg James, automotive expert Jonny Smith, and the Managing Director of Renault UK, Adam Wood.

Battersea Power Station now holds a cult status amongst Londoners as the home of the cool and the cutting edge, and Renault's new concept store rnlt was the perfect backdrop for the event. With a live DJ belting out bangers, the R5 and Twingo on display, and guests including celebrities, influencers, and industry leaders milling about, it's probably the furthest thing from a standard car showroom you could imagine. Alongside the panel, guests included broadcaster Rosanna Tennant, TV presenter Crystelle Pereria, model Scarlett Luxe, and internet personalities including Calum Harris, Anish Panesar, and Zoe de Pass.

The panel featured professionals from all walks of the automotive world - the knowledge of Renault’s Managing Director Adam Wood, the expertise of Jonny Smith, and the downright Renault encyclopedia that is Greg James – and one unifying point of agreement amongst the panel was their collective love of style. Design is the core that runs through every choice you make, especially the further you travel into adult life. The more you explore your own taste, the more it becomes reflected in the items you acquire. Interestingly, it’s the same for cars; despite all the details, all the engineering, and all the precision that goes into each model, design is the number one reason globally why people choose Renaults. For the Twingo, Renault 5, and Renault 4, it’s a masterclass in retro futurism. While their names may be familiar, hailing from their 80s and 90s predecessors, each car is an ultra-modern creation in its own right, designed to look fresh today while paying homage to the past through stylish nods back to some of the iconic designs that made them cult classics in the first place. Another thing beloved by the panel and guests alike was the inbuilt tech – including the advanced driver-assistance systems and dual horizontal OpenR screens. It feels odd to think about the days when a satnav was the most advanced type of tech you could set up in a car, but with the rapid advance of technology, in-built is almost expected now. However, that hasn’t stopped technological developments from pushing the boundaries of what you’d expect from a car, and Renault is leading this charge, with each of its models getting snappier and slicker. Renault’s intuitive openR* link system for example includes a sat-nav powered by Google built-in* with voice control which is undeniably a game changer in the city. The voice-powered assist minimises any of the stresses that come with driving, especially in the city. Not only does it allow you to find alternative routes without hassle, it can also help you locate the best coffee in town, change up your playlist, and check weather forecasts – all hands free. Essentially, the voice controlled tech provides all the best parts of having a passenger with you, without someone asking you if you’re there yet every five minutes.

As you'd expect when you put a panel of car enthusiasts and experts together, there was a fair bit of geekery, with Adam, Greg, and Jonny all swapping their favourite features of the Twingo.

For Jonny Smith, the style married with the technological advancements is what makes the Twingo truly stand out: "Because it first launched in the 90s, there are so many easter eggs from that era in the Twingo," he explained. "Especially in its design; I love the textiles, because it's not just black leather – so many cars are black leather because it's "premium" but it's not interesting anymore. Whereas there’s real passion in the Renault designs – the colour palette is great too, it makes the street furniture so much more interesting. It’s fun but not at the detriment of practicality."

"Why would you drive a grey box?" Greg James agreed. "How you feel in life when you're wearing a certain shirt or choosing a pair of glasses is important, so why wouldn't you extend that to choosing a car. You want to walk out of your front door and think, I can’t wait to drive that. And Renault [cars] are just amazing to drive."

"Hopefully it's going to brighten peoples' days up," Adam Wood added. "It's known as The Frog in France," he explained, addressing the nickname behind the car's distinctive "smile". Although for him, the Twingo's accessibility is equally key.

"Being sub £20,000 is a game changer; it's such an entry point for everyday people. It’s making electric mobility accessible for everyone in the country and that’s so important for the progress with emissions and achieving net zero by 2030."

When it comes to any purchase, showing up is important – and Renault’s new concept store rnlt© in Battersea puts motoring back into the heart of the capital, and puts fantasising over new wheels right next door. This chipset has a neural proceeding unit (NPU) made just for AI tasks, letting it perform minor AI miracles on-device. Qualcomm says this generation’s AI Engine brings up to 60% improved efficiency too. Power isn’t just about how well a phone can play Fortnite these days.

The OnePlus Nord 4 already has some useful AI features built-in. For example, AI writer will prep emails and messages based on a brief prompt, meaning you only need to do the tweaking. AI Summary gives you a potted version of documents, or audio recordings. But, yes, it is rude not to listen to your friend’s 15-second voice notes.

There are AI tweaks for your photos too. AI Eraser lets you zap unwanted objects from pics, for when that magic moment almost — but didn’t quite — come together. And there’s AI Best Face, which helps you fix the seemingly unavoidable issue that someone is always going to have their eyes closed in a group photo*.

4. OnePlus Nord 4: Made for the long-haul

We’ve already suggested the OnePlus Nord 4 will be more forgiving of drops than some phones, thanks to having less glass on show. And it’s prepped for future AI features. It is also made to last in other ways.

First up, there’s OnePlus’s Battery Health Engine. This helps the issue that even if you treat your phone like a princess, in the end the battery is going to start losing stamina.

The Nord 4 will push this way off into the distance, by optimising how it charges and how the battery drains. OnePlus says this lets it hit up to 1600 charging cycles before losing 80% of battery health, where you may start to notice a bit of stamina loss.

That’s well over four years of solid use, and miles better than the 600-800 cycles of some of the competition.

5. It will stay sharp and current for years

OnePlus promises to keep the software on-point that entire time, and beyond. With a Nord 4 you’ll get four years of major Android updates and six years of security updates.

The phone has also been independently assessed by TÜV SÜD as a handset that will remain “Fast & Smooth” for 72 months. No calculator needed: that matches the six years the Nord 4 will receive security updates for.

We could carry on talking about the 50MP camera tech, the gorgeous Fluid AMOLED screen or how much we love the ultra-fast 100W charging. But, well, we’ve got to leave something for you to discover when you open the box.

Huawei is back with an update to one of our favourite wearable series around, the Huawei Watch Fit. The combo of style, display quality, fitness tracking chops and value is hard to beat, and Huawei might just have reached new heights with the Watch Fit 3.

We’re going to look at the Huawei Watch Fit 3’s best bits. And we don’t recommend hanging around too long to pick one up as, until June 18, Huawei is throwing in a pair of Huawei FreeBuds SE 2 true wireless earphones (worth £39.99) when you buy the watch.

Considering the Huawei Watch Fit 3 only costs £139.99, not much for a smartwatch, we think that sounds a bit of a bargain. Let’s take a closer look at this new smartwatch’s stand-out strengths.

A fresh new look

Since 2020, the Huawei Watch Fit family has provided a way to get an affordable smartwatch and fitness tracker with an amazing screen. The Huawei Fit 3 goes next-level.

Instead of the series staple rectangular lozenge design, the Fit 3 has a more classic smartwatch look. The screen is squarer, but still has rounded-off edges for a sleek and friendly appearance.

Huawei calls it Fashion Squared, and we’re all aboard for this one. The way the display fills an impressive 77.4% of the front, the lovely 2.5D effect with the curved glass floating above the watch case itself, combines with a svelte 9.9mm thin design to add up to a watch we definitely want to wear. There’s even a smart rotating crown on one side.

And unlike some of the bulky smartwatch competition, wearing a Huawei Watch Fit 3 24/7 is no problem. It only weighs 26g! You’ll hardly notice you’re wearing it, especially useful for your sleep tracking (which it handles superbly).

Ultra-high-quality straps

A pretty face is one thing, but when a company also pays extra attention to watch strap quality, we also start to pay attention.

You have a choice of more sport-friendly, nylon or leather straps when shopping for a Huawei Watch Fit 3. There’s a reasonable £20 price difference. But it is, unusually, the standard strap that caught our eye this time.

Most watch straps are made using silicone. It’s a flexible, soft and rubbery-like polymer. The Huawei Watch Fit 3 uses fluoroelastomer, a far more expensive and frankly luxurious strap material.

It’s more comfortable than silicone, super-hard-wearing, and doesn’t pick up fluff and muck in the same way a basic silicone watch strap will. Fitting fluoroelastomer in a watch this affordable? We’re impressed.

There’s a whole array of strap options to pick from too. In fluoroelastomer, you can choose Black, Pink, Green and, Moon White colours. You can also plump for a Grey Nylon strap, as well as a Pearl White leather strap.

Incredible display quality

It’s not just the outside appearance of the Huawei Watch Fit 3 screen that is worth celebrating, but what’s going on inside too.

This is a 1.82-inch screen, the largest the series has seen to date. It’s the sharpest too, clocking in at a truly pixel-packed 347ppi.

We think the max brightness is the real eye-opening part, though. The Huawei Watch Fit 3 will ramp up to a supernova-like 1500 nits when needed. That’s enough to compete with the brightest of days, and is even 1.5x as bright as the Apple Watch SE 2 (and yet remains somehow cheaper).

You don’t have to worry about setting the brightness either, as a light sensor can automatically control the screen power to suit conditions.

All the fitness features you need

Hopefully by now you’re sold on the tech, but what is it actually like to use? We like to think of the Huawei Watch Fit 3 as a wearable that combines the best bits of a fitness tracker and a classic smartwatch.

For example, a charge lasts up to 10 days, not 1-2 days you’ll get from some of the competition. We’re all about that low-maintenance life.

The Huawei Watch Fit 3 still packs in plenty of smartwatch-grade features, though. Its large, high res screen is perfect for relaying notifications from your phone. And the watch can give your AI-assisted workout suggestions based on your recent activity.

It also uses activity rings, to help you keep track of your daily goals at a glance. Cleverly, the watch will also learn from your habits and health stats to make intelligent recommendations to help you close out your activity rings too.

Ingredients

• 50ml Woodford Reserve
• 15ml sugar syrup
• 3 dashes Woodford Reserve Aromatic Bitters

• 2 dashes Woodford Reserve Orange Bitters

• How to make the perfect Old Fashioned

Add ingredients to a mixing glass. Add ice to the mixing glass and a serving glass. Stir ingredients in the mixing glass for 30-40 secs. Strain into the serving glass. Garnish with a lightly expressed orange peel.
