Call us killjoys, but April Fool’s Day can be somewhat of a drag.

Opening your newsfeed to a stream of ridiculous status updates and unfunny newspaper headlines designed to bamboozle us – no thank you sir, give us tedium any day.

So when we get a good April Fool, it feels that little bit more special.

And Google has pulled out all the stops with their trick this year, letting users play classic Nokia game Snake – all on Google Maps.

If you’re too young to remember, Snake was an addictive gaming sensation when it was released on Nokia phones – so good, in fact, that we often longingly wish we could swap our bells-and-whistles smartphone for a simple 3310.

In Google’s version, you’re not just collecting little bits of food for your snake – you’re picking up characters in cities including London, Sydney, San Francisco and Toyko. Picking up landmarks like the London Eye gets you extra points.

“Play Snake to get your daily dose of 90s nostalgia (boy bands, fanny packs and slap bracelets not included),” Google wrote in a blog post announcing the game.

“Anticipating a snake addiction? Us, too.”

The game will be available on iOS and Android today, with users able to play the game in-app all week.

If you don’t have the app, you can play on a site designed especially for today.

Just don’t blame us if you don’t do any work today.
