The end of a long, long era

This is when 'The Big Bang Theory', one of TV’s most-watched shows, is going to end
23 August 2018

One of the world’s most-watched TV comedies The Big Bang Theory is finally coming to an end.

In an announcement met with a ‘mixed’ response on social media, CBS bosses revealed that the massively popular sitcom will air its final episode in 2019.

“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons,” said a statement from Warner Bros. Television, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions.

“We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”

This will be the show’s 12th season, premiering on 24 September, and is expected to conclude in May.

The show attracted more than 18 million viewers each season, according to the BBC, and became one of the longest-running sitcoms in US history.

The Big Bang Theory won nine Emmy awards over its run and made its stars filthy rich. In 2016, they were reportedly pulling in $1 million per episode.

Famously, however, the show had its detractors who complained that the sitcom just, well, wasn’t very funny.

And the Twitter reaction to this latest news definitely proves that many, many viewers won’t be too sad to see the back of the show.

Farewell The Big Bang Theory. But all things (good and bad) must, eventually, come to an end I suppose.
