Holy shit this looks good. This looks really really good.
There was always a worry with Stranger Things - given how much everyone loved the first season - that this second instalment would fall flat. And hey, it still could, but if this trailer’s anything to go by, it looks like if anything, it’s going to be even better.
We’ve long been promised a season which is “bigger and badder and darker” than the first, but it’s not until this trailer dropped that we realised just how true those words are.
The standout news - we’ve finally been given our first glimpse of Eleven. While we’ve known for ages that Mille Bobbie Brown’s character would be returning to the show, we didn’t know in what capacity, given the way she sacrificed herself to defeat the demogorgon in the Season 1 finale.
But it appears Eleven is back in the real world, eating Eggos and kicking ass, just as we like it.
Meanwhile, things aren’t looking great for Will. While he has a lot more screen-time this season, it’s very clear he is far from over his ordeal in the Upside Down. From this trailer, it appears the consensus had been that everything actually happened inside Will’s head, but the characters are forced to abandon this fantasy with the appearance of the Thessalhydra.
“These are not nightmares. It’s happening,” says Hopper, extremely ominously, “and it all leads back to here.”
This suggests that Hawkins isn’t just a strange little town where strange things happen - it is part of something much bigger. What that is, well, we’re hopefully going to find out when we binge the season in its entirety on 27 October.
Will is very much not back to normal
The trailer opens with a voiceover from Mike, as we see clips of Eleven snaffling that box of Eggos Hopper left out for her at the end of last season.
“On Halloween night, Will saw a sort of shadow,” Mike says. “Maybe all this is happening for a reason.”
It looks as if there may be slightly less focus on the kids this season - we don’t see a lot of Lucas or Dustin, though Dustin and Steve do share the one moment of light relief the trailer gives us, right at the very end - just to lull us into a false sense of security.
Oh, and Joyce is still very much her same passionate, hard-ass self. As if that would ever change.
If you’re not hyped after watching that trailer then seriously, there’s nothing we can do for you. I literally cannot wait.
