Whatever your feelings about The Simpsons, few would claim the current incarnation of the show is one of the best things on television.
However, while creator Matt Groening may at times seem short on ideas for the programme that made him millions, The Simpsons Movie and Futurama both demonstrated that – even after the show began its decline – he was able to find inspiration elsewhere.
It is for this reason that so many fans were excited by the news that Groening has announced a new venture, an animation called Disenchantment, which will premiere on Netflix next year.
The voice cast comprises the best of British and American talent – Futurama regulars Tress MacNeille (Mom), John DiMaggio (Bender) and Billy West (Pretty much every other character, including Fry and Zoidberg) will be joined by Noel Fielding and Matt Berry, among others.
As per a Netflix release, Groening has described Disenchantment as being “about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you.”
Netflix has confirmed 20 episodes will air on the streaming service, with the first 10 being rolled out at an unspecified time in 2018.
It marks another addition to a range of original animation series on Netflix, and will follow the fourth season of BoJack Horseman, which is due to air in September 2017.
