There’s a remake of White Men Can’t Jump on the way

And the producers actually can jump

There’s a remake of White Men Can’t Jump on the way

Let’s not ask why. Not ‘Why, it’s such a classic?’ Not ‘Why, who would make a better pair than Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson?’ Not ‘Why would they even touch one of Stanley Kubrick’s favourite films?’

We live in a time of maniacs and remakes, and we may as well be ok with the latter since we certainly can’t be with the former.

To that effect, Black-ish creator Kenya Barris is teaming up with Mortal Media (NBA players Blake Griffin and Ryan Kalil’s production company) to remake the iconic 1992 basketball comedy.

Barris will be writing the script as well as producing, which no one should be too concerned about considering his Emmy-winning sitcom Black-ish was just nominated for three Golden Globe awards.

Griffin and Kalil will also be producing, and Griffin at least knows a thing or two about dunking.

White Men Can't Jump made around $90.7 million after its release and became a cult classic.

Here’s hoping for a Snipes and Harrelson appearance.

No word yet on a director or release date, but we’ll keep you updated. In the meantime, let’s embrace the nostalgia:
