Prue Leith accidentally tweets name of 'Bake Off' winner 10 hours too early
31 October 2017

It was all going so well for Channel 4. They made it through weeks of GBBO with funny new hosts and an accomplished replacement for the nation’s grandmother Mary Berry.

And then this happens…

This morning, Prue Leith accidentally tweeted the winner of tonight’s Great British Bake Off final episode.

In a now deleted tweet, the TV judge said: “No-one told me judging a GBBO final would be so emotional. I wanted them all to win. Bravo [the name of the winner].”

Obviously upset by her mistake, she told Press Association later: “I’m in Bhutan. The time difference is massive. I thought that they got it six hours ago. I’m in too much of a state to talk about it. I f***** up.”

She also tweeted after the incident: “I am so sorry to the fans of the show for my mistake this morning, I am in a different time zone and mortified by my error.”

The Sun’s Dan Wootton spotted the accidental tweet and posted the winner’s name online. We’re not naming the winner here but if want to find out the name you can probably find it on social media.

And of course, Twitter had a field day with the GBBO mayhem.

Tune in tonight if you still want to watch the finale of Great British Bake Off on Channel 4 at 8pm.
