The team behind 'People Just Do Nothing' have a new sitcom on the way

Two of Kurupt FM’s biggest geniuses are teaming up to create Gary1987

As People Just Do Nothing gears up for its fifth and final season, its creators have got to look ahead to life after the show that made their names. And it looks like they’re heading “into the internet” because they’re going all virtual reality on our asses, with Gary1987, their next sitcom.

The show will follow an unemployed man called Gary (hahahaha, er, hahahaha) who enters the VR world to try and make money but, this being a comedy, it presumably doesn’t go too well for him.

The show will come from Steve Stamp and Allan Mustafa, who play Steves and Grindah in People Just Do Nothing, as well as Skins creator Bryan Elsley and People Just Do Nothing’s director Jack Clough.

Pancho Mansfield, from co-producers eOne, says:

“Bryan is a brilliant force in the creative landscape which is why we couldn’t be more excited to be teaming up with his production company Balloon Entertainment, co-owned with Harry Enfield as well as the talented team behind the original break out hit UK series People Just Do Nothing who were keen to develop a show set in a bigger and more ambitious world.”

Elsley is no stranger to the virtual world either - he worked on Kiss Me First, a Channel 4 series which was all on that VR hype. He added:

“I’m beyond happy to be teaming up with the hilarious People Just Do Nothing team. Their freewheeling comedy style and off the wall flavour makes irresistible viewing. Balloon Entertainment is committed to working in innovative ways with strong emerging talent. Steve, Allan and Jack fit this bill exactly and we look forward to some glorious semi improvised characters, doing truly stupid things.”

People doing stupid things - that’s our kind of wheelhouse. The Stupid Things Wheelhouse, it’s called. Open 24/7.

There’s no air date in sight as of yet, but we’ll update you as we know more. Ex. Sight. Ing.
