Netflix hacks you need to know about

Netflix just got even better

Netflix hacks you need to know about
13 November 2015

Netflix is one big beautiful beast. It's always waiting for us when we get in from work. It's always there when it's pouring down outside. It'd never even dare to judge us for watching 11 hours of back-to-back Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends. Netflix never needs to change.

Unless...

Here's seven simple but totally life-enhancing ways to make your sofa streaming session even better.

Netflix Roulette: When the simple task of just picking something to watch stretches your brain to the point of exhaustion, or causes an all-out household war, you need something to make that all important decision for you. Enter Netflix Roulette. Punch in your favourite director, top actors, and a few choice keywords, and this site will choose your perfect viewing. Bonus points for being really fun to play with, too.

Media Hint: We all know that US Netflix is like the Ford Mustang to our Vauxhall Corsa, and often have to wait centuries to get our eyes around what our American brothers are enjoying. The grass is always greener, it seems. Until now. For a wallet-friendly monthly fee, Media Hint will unlock international content for you, meaning you can get a slice of that tasty American Netflix pie from the comfort of your very own home.

Netflix Enhancer: If you're the kind of guy that needs to know you're about to watch something really great, and hate taking a punt on unknown films, then this right up your alley. Download it to your Chrome browser for free and feast your eyes on ratings and reviews on each title from IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic before choosing to commit to that play button. It's like having Mark Kermode sitting on your lap while you watch (which wouldn't be weird at all).

Rabbit: If Shia LaBeouf has taught us anything this week, it's that we love to watch other people watch a screen. If your Netflix sesh is starting to feel a little lonely, log into this and watch Netflix with your mates over video chat via the sorcery of the World Wide Web.

Apptui: There's no sinking feeling like the sinking feeling you get when you realise your PS4 controller is out of battery, meaning you'll have to GET UP and WALK to the console to charge it if you want to stream some Narcos episodes. Those days are over, friend. Apptui turns your iPhone into a Netflix remote control/gadget/flicker, so you can carry on with your evening of undiluted sloth.

Change subtitles: OK, so changing your subtitles isn't going to blow any minds, but we bet you didn't know you could, right? Go into your account, then into your profile and 'change subtitles' to mess with the fonts. There, that was more fun than you thought, wasn't it.

HeliumA floating browser window for OS X, this means you can watch Netflix while you work. Or, in our case, watch Netflix while we pretend to work, then get in loads of trouble for not working, but feel secretly smug that we're up-to-date with Aziz Ansari's Master of None.
