As ‘Modern Family’ enters its 10th season, there’s going to be a major shock to the system

Nearly a decade on from its first season, Modern Family is still going strong.

The comedy, which first aired in 2009, continues to draw millions of viewers each week, drawn to the lovable antics of the Pritchetts and the Dunphys, particularly the world’s greatest dad Phil, who is someone we should all aspire to be.

Figures have been on the wane of late, however, although that could change with the shock news that one of the main characters in the show is due to die in season 10.

Co-creator Christopher Lloyd would not reveal who is going to die during the upcoming season, but confirmed it will be a “significant character on the series”.

“[It] will be a moving event — and an event that has repercussions across several episodes.” Lloyd told Entertainment Weekly.

“There is a significant change in the dynamics of the family that people maybe thought was going to happen at some point down the line that is happening sooner than expected,” he added.

While it’s arguably no longer at the heady heights it once was, Modern Family continues to keep pace with some of the more popular shows around today.

If people are able to predict Game of Thrones deaths using science, then maybe they can do the same here and try to work out which character will get the chop - we’re certainly already seeing a fair bit of speculation on social media, and that will only continue up until the new season airs on 26 September.

Please don’t let it be Phil. Please don’t let it be Phil.
