Marvel's The Punisher Gets Netflix Spin-off Series
29 April 2016

‘This town ain't big enough for the two of us.'

It’s a line that’s been spewed by many a fictional American hero down the years, though in the case of Netflix’s increasingly brilliant Daredevil, it’s never been truer.

Because aside from THAT tracking shot, the biggest praise for the show's second season has been reserved for The Punisher, Marvel’s other famed ass-kicker, drafted in to give Matt Murdock an extra Hell's Kitchen-sized headache.

Played by Jon Bernthal, Frank Castle’s black-clad vigilante has been nothing short of a revelation, and if you've been a fan you’ll be glad to know he’s getting his very own Netflix spin-off:

"Jon hooked our global audience with his performance as Frank Castle from the moment he stepped on screen in Marvel’s Daredevil," said Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content, "and we are looking forward to seeing more of him in this role under the vision of [executive producer] Steve Lightfoot.”

Who added: "For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn’t be more excited to dive into his world. After watching Jon’s performance in Marvel’s Daredevil I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own."

No word on what or where Castle’s backstory will take place - presumably just before his family is slain; the trigger point that turned him into one of the most vengeful antiheroes, with the emphasis flatly on the 'anti’, in the Marvel canon - nor who else will be starring. But surely it won't be any worse than the last two film efforts - and if you're struggling to remember those, then we've made our point.

Don't expect to see it hit screens before midway next year mind. With Bernthal currently splitting his time between Edgar Wright’s next feature Baby Driver and filming thriller Wind River, the actor clearly has a lot on his plate in 2016.

Talk about a punishing schedule.
