While the likes of The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises have been pulling in the crowds with worldwide grosses of $654m (£416m) and $537m (£342m) respectively, the summer's most likely winner was also the season's first big release.

Marvel's superhero-filled blockbuster The Avengers has already made $1.4bn (£891m) internationally, making it the third biggest hit of all time.

With Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 hitting next summer and Captain America 2 coming the year after, Marvel are still looking to squeeze some more money from their box office behemoth.

Deadline has reported that they are working with US TV channel ABC to develop a show that exists within the same universe but most likely without any of the same characters. It's apparently in the very early stages of development although it might exist as a "high-concept cop show".

It's not the only small screen superhero project on the way with a Hulk TV show, which Guillermo Del Toro is reportedly developing, also on the cards.

What do you think? Too much?
