Loki and Scarlet Witch in their own TV shows? Yes please!

Marvel makes plans for MCU TV spin-off starring the original actors
20 September 2018

Oh, you thought that Marvel’s current dominance over the cinema was it? You thought that was it, did you? You thought their Netflix ruling was “it”, too, did ya? Well, you’re wrong, because they’ve got plans to takeover the streaming world in an even bigger way, so you better brace yourselves for even more Marvel goodness heading to your TV screens.

Essentially, Disney are making plans for a variety of standalone live-action TV series following popular characters like Loki and Scarlet Witch, and they’re set to star the original actors, so we’d be getting old Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen on our small screens, which is rather exciting.

So although the current Marvel universe that we’re getting on TV (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) and Netflix (Daredevil et al) are part of the MCU, these new spin-offs will be explicitly following on. The current TV shows merely reference the movies, but there’s not much crossover - now we’ll be getting the actual big time film stars in their own one-shot TV shows.

It’s currently not clear if the limited series will be prequels or actually continue the storyline we’re currently in the midst of with the Infinity War saga, although it looks as though they’ll surface after Avengers 4, which releases in May. We know this because they’re set to air on Disney’s new on-demand streaming service, which is due in the latter part of 2019.

This - as it’s Disney - service will obviously have a gigantic amount of money behind it, so expect some pretty big-budget TV action here - for example, they also have plans to bring the Star Wars universe to the small screen, including a live-action series courtesy of director John Favreau. How vee, vee, veeeee exciting.
