Killer Joe TV show in the works

Given his recent Oscar win and starring role in the compelling mystery show True Detective, it's hard to remember a time when Matthew McConaughey was seen as merely window dressing in frothy romantic comedies.

During his rise back to the top, McConaughey impressed in a variety of roles, including a chilling turn in Killer Joe, William Friedkin's knowingly trashy thriller about a detective who also works as a contract killer.

Now, it seems as if Friedkin might be trying to lure McConaughey back to the small screen as he's announced that a TV adaptation is in the works.

Legendary director Friedkin, known for The Exorcist and The French Connection, revealed plans to turn two of his films, Killer Joe and To Live and Die In LA, into series, having gone off the idea of making another film.

"I don’t want to make a feature film," he told Movies.com. "Because I don’t want to make a movie about a guy in a mask and a spandex suit flying around and saving the world."

He's concerting his efforts on television and a Killer Joe series which is in development. "It will not be the same story, he said. "But it will be very edgy, not unlike Fargo."

Whether or not he can bring McConaughey back, next to be seen in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, is another question...
