There's an unfortunate tradition surrounding screen-based adaptations of video games: they're awful. A certain Mr Ridley Scott is looking to change all that with one of the biggest console titles around.

The scope and scale of the Halo series has seen Microsoft's core franchise attract a lot of film talk over the years, with directors from Steven Spielberg (still set to do his own Halo show) to Peter Jackson mumbling of their interest. After some animated expeditions and some short live-action chapters, Halo: Nightfall sees Scott give the UNSC its first proper serialised treatment.

Set between the action of Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians, Nightfall introduces a pivotal new character to the Halo story - Jameson Locke. An agent of Office of Naval Intelligence, Locke and his team are sent to investigate the source of a horrific biological attack, uncovering an ancient artefact that will present the group with a threat more deadly than the Covenant or the Flood.

Set to arrive in conjunction with the Halo: The Master Chief Collection, the five-part Halo: Nightfall series will start filling in the storyline gaps this November.
