We know.

You wanted to see a George R R Martin headline containing the words "finishes" "book", probably with a big fat "FINALLY" thrown in there for good measure.

Well you're going to have to keep on waiting for that fateful day, in the meantime contenting yourself with news that another Martin novel is set for a TV series.

The Song of Ice and Fire author took to his live journal to announce that Cinemax, HBO's sister company, has taken on The Skin Trade - a "werewolf noir" (Martin's words) novella.

"The deal is closed, and Cinemax has ordered the pilot script," explained Martin. "This being Hollywood, of course, you never know where things will end..."

The Skin Trade follows small city private detective Randi Wade and her search for a brutal serial killer, who's been taking the skin of their victim. One of her pals reveals a startling secret (no points for guessing what), and Wade is dragged into a secret world of shapeshifting monsters and a grizzly underworld.

The award-winning novella has had a complex publishing history, having first appeared in the fifth edition of Night Vision - an annual horror anthology - alongside works by Dan Simmons and Stephen King. It's since been adapted for graphic novels and a comic book miniseries.

We're keeping our fingers crossed that any potential TV adaptation and script work won't drag Martin away from his typewriter, or the process of editing The Winds of Winter or A Dream of Spring.

He's not getting any younger...
