George R R Martin Denies Game Of Thrones Movie In The Works

It’s not every week we’re able draw comparisons between Game of Thrones and The Inbetweeners – there just aren’t enough bus w*ankers in Westeros - and yet in the late hours of last Sunday, we were led to believe the dragons and swords epic was also set for a big screen outing, confirmed by none other than George RR Martin.

The fantasy author was quoted as telling The Daily Star: "There will be a movie but I will not be involved. I have too much to do. That is something HBO and [showrunners] DB [Weiss] and David [Benioff] are dealing with."

Not only that, he even speculated as to how the film might work, adding: "They are looking at dipping back in time during certain periods of the series, which could be examined as a one off plot. That means that some of the big characters who fans have seen die on screen could be resurrected."

Only a few months ago, after confirming the show would be done by season 8, HBO’s President of Programming Michael Lombardo also hinted of a feature-length romp. But alas, it now turns out the chance of a film might not be as odds-on as we'd previously thought, with Martin taking to his personal Livejournal to respond to one commenter who had asked if the reports were actually false:

“Yes, completely false. No one is working on any movie just now. And if there was a movie, it would not be about Robert’s Rebellion," he wrote, referring to the events precluding A Song Of Fire And Ice.

So - at least for the meantime - there we have it: no movie in the works and a heap of time for fans to once again speculate on what form the plot may take should the world's most talked about TV show ever makes it to multiplexes.

Let's face it, if it starred Adam Sandler we’d still find ourselves going to watch it.
