Everyone's freaking out about one tiny moment in next week's 'Game of Thrones' trailer

We're getting worried

Everyone's freaking out about one tiny moment in next week's 'Game of Thrones' trailer
15 August 2017

If you’ve not seen the trailer for next week’s Game of Thrones yet – ‘Death is the Enemy’ – then be prepared to get extremely hyped.

As the penultimate episode of the season, we know it’s set to be an absolute epic, and the trailer confirms a lot of the action looks to be set Beyond the Wall, as Jon Snow, Tormund, The Hound, Gendry, Jorah Mormont, Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr go out to fight the White Walkers, with the aim of bringing one back to lay at Cersei’s feet, and prove their existence once and for all.

There are a few worrying scenes in the trailer – not least the bit where Jon and Tormund are running at full pelt away from something we can assume is extremely scary (fingers crossed for another giant White Walker appearance), but it’s one moment in particular that has stood out to fans, and got us worrying about the fate of one of our favourite characters.

One of our favourite characters who has literally only just returned.

About halfway through the minute-long trailer we are treated to a very satisfying scene of The Hound crunching a wight’s head with a hammer – except wait, why has he got a hammer? The Hound fights with a sword.

On closer inspection, we can tell that the hammer he’s using is Gendry’s – and yeah, now you’re starting to panic. If The Hound has Gendry’s hammer, then where is Gendry? (A questions we finally thought we’d be able to stop asking.)

What's The Hound doing with that hammer?

People on twitter have already been raising there concerns for Robert Baratheon’s bastard son, who hit it off with Jon in ‘Eastwatch’, and was a very welcome addition back to the cast.

However, despite the bad signs, we’re more inclined to agree with that last person. Surely HBO included that moment in the trailer for exactly this reason – to make us worry – and there is some logical explanation for Sandor wielding that weapon.

Or, y’know, Gendry’s toast.

It would perhaps be the ultimate troll to bring him back after four seasons only to kill him off for good after one episode, but in Game of Thrones world, that is an entirely likely scenario.

I guess I’m going to have to watch next week to find out – and I was planning on deliberately missing it forever too. Damn…
